FAQ

What is the sauna heated with and what is the temperature?

Our sauna is equipped with an electric stove that provides consistent and even heating, ensuring an optimal sauna experience. The temperature is set to 180-190 degrees each morning upon opening and is maintained throughout the day. Thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity, we monitor and control the sauna remotely to guarantee it remains at the ideal temperature at all times. Please note that sauna controls and settings are managed exclusively by our staff and are not accessible to guests during their visit.

Do you have a cold plunge?

Both saunas include a cold plunge experience. When visiting our facility, the cold plunge tank will be pre-filled and ready for immediate use. For our mobile sauna delivery service, customers are responsible for filling the tank. The tank holds 100 gallons and can be filled easily with a garden hose in under one hour.

Cold Plunge Availability During Cold Weather Months

As much as we strive to offer a complete wellness experience, the cold plunge presents unique challenges during the colder months. Due to freezing temperatures, we face a number of difficulties in keeping the cold plunge operational, including:

  • Freezing water: The cold plunge water itself may freeze in extremely cold conditions, making it unsafe and unusable.

  • Freezing knobs and hoses: The mechanisms used to change and refresh the water are prone to freezing, preventing us from properly maintaining the plunge.

In addition to these operational challenges, there are significant safety concerns when guests exit the cold plunge. Water drips onto the stone patio, deck steps, and surrounding areas, which can quickly freeze and create hazardous, icy conditions. This poses a serious safety risk to all guests.

Given these difficulties, we may be forced to temporarily close the cold plunge for the winter months. While we understand this may be disappointing, we will continuously monitor weather conditions and, if temperatures allow, we will make every effort to reopen the cold plunge when it is safe to do so. We are committed to offering this experience whenever possible, and we’ll do our best to provide you with updates on its availability throughout the season.

We appreciate your understanding as we prioritize both the safety and the quality of your experience.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope to welcome you to the cold plunge again soon when the conditions permit!

There is a pond next to the Sauna facility, can I plunge in that?

We kindly ask that guests enjoy the view of the pond, take selfies nearby, or even roll in the snow beside it; however, entering the pond is strictly prohibited. This rule is clearly stated in the waiver signed upon participation at FIKA Sauna. Any guest found disregarding this policy will unfortunately not be invited to return. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Why is there a strict arrival and departure time?

Each FIKA sauna session is reserved for a specific time and duration. To keep our experience self-guided and interruption-free, we ask all guests to strictly adhere to their booked time.

  • Entry is permitted up to 5 minutes before your scheduled start time

  • Sessions must end on time, with guests exiting promptly at their scheduled end

Late departures limit our ability to properly clean and prepare the sauna and may affect the next guest’s experience. Sessions that significantly exceed the reserved time may be subject to an additional fee or impact future booking availability.

By booking a session, you agree to respect these timing guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting the thoughtful flow of our sauna schedule.

Since the sauna is heated by electricity, what if there is a power failure prior to or during my session?

Unfortunately, Mother Nature can sometimes disrupt our plans, resulting in power outages, which are most common during the winter months. In the event of a power outage, we will offer you a full refund for the affected session or provide a gift certificate for a future visit. If a power outage occurs before your scheduled session, we will make every effort to notify you in advance, whenever possible, and will be happy to reschedule your appointment.

Is the Sauna cleaned before each use?

Regular sauna cleaning is essential for preserving its aesthetic appeal and ensuring user health and safety. Consistent maintenance helps protect the wood's structural integrity while preventing the buildup of bacteria and viruses. A well-maintained sauna remains a safe and welcoming environment, providing therapeutic benefits for years to come. For disinfection, we use diluted hydrogen peroxide, which is safe for wood, effectively eliminates pathogens, and leaves no harmful residues. After each use, we thoroughly wipe down sauna benches and walls to maintain optimal hygiene and durability.

Traditional Swedish saunas recommend being naked, can I remove my clothes?

While we encourage guests to remain clothed for comfort and hygiene, you may choose to use the sauna oh naturel. In such cases, we kindly request that you sit on a towel when using any furniture or benches inside the sauna or anywhere within the building. Additionally, please be mindful that our facility is located within a residential neighborhood. Although pedestrian and vehicular traffic is minimal, it does occur. Therefore, if you walk away from the building, we ask that you wear appropriate clothing. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. You must also confirm that others in your group are comfortable with your decision to remove your clothes.

Community Session Guidelines:

To ensure a respectful and comfortable environment for all, we kindly ask that guests adhere to the following expectations during their visit:

  • Appropriate sauna attire must be worn at all times while attending our community sessions.

  • Any form of unwanted physical or sexual advances toward other guests is strictly prohibited.

  • Sexually explicit language or conversation is not permitted.

We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

Is there a bathroom?

Yes! A portable restroom facility is available on-site for your convenience during your visit to FIKA.

Can I bring food or drinks?

Yes! Feel free to bring along some light snacks and (non alcoholic, please) drinks to enjoy! We just ask that you please take any trash or personal items with you when you leave.

Is the space inside and outside the sauna private?

The FIKA facility is situated within our property, approximately 400 feet from our home. The building has been thoughtfully designed to ensure maximum privacy. For this reason, a pull shade has been installed on the window facing the house, as well as on the sauna window that overlooks the road. The side windows provide a tranquil, private view of the pond, while the rear deck offers an unobstructed vista of the surrounding woods. The only time you will see our home is upon arrival and departure from the driveway.

Cancellation Policy

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we strive to offer a reasonable and flexible cancellation policy to accommodate our guests.

  • Full Refund: Cancellations made up to 24 hours in advance will receive a full refund.

  • 50% Refund: For cancellations made within 6 to 24 hours before your scheduled session, we will retain 50% of the session fee.

  • No Refund: Cancellations made within 6 hours up to your appointment time of your scheduled session will not be eligible for a refund. This policy is in place because of the significant electricity required to keep the sauna heated and up to temperature in preparation for your reserved time as well as the loss of appointment slot that could of been filled by another party.

We hope you understand that these policies help us manage the operational costs and ensure the best experience for all guests. If you have any questions or need assistance with your reservation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
