Hello, my name is Jennifer. I am a proud seventh-generation Vermonter, born and raised in Huntington, where I continue to live today. I’ve been happily married to my high school sweetheart for 28 years, and we have two grown sons, ages 19 and 22.

My ancestral roots trace back to both Scotland and Scandinavia. On the Scottish side, I am a direct descendant of Clan MacDougall, originating from Argyll in the Western Highlands. With over 900 years of documented lineage, I’m proud to share that seven of my great-grandfathers served as Clan Chiefs of Clan MacDougall. From Scandinavia, my heritage comes directly from Sweden and Norway—cultures known for their strength, simplicity, and deep connection to nature. As part of reconnecting with my Scottish roots, I am currently studying the Scottish Gaelic language to deepen my understanding of the culture and traditions that shaped my lineage.

Professionally, I have owned and operated my own business as a licensed real estate appraiser for over 30 years. This experience has honed my attention to detail, analytical skills, and commitment to delivering trustworthy, high-quality service. The discipline, integrity, and customer-focused approach I developed as an appraiser directly translate to managing FIKA, where precision, reliability, and creating a welcoming, professional environment are equally essential.

The inspiration for FIKA came from a lifelong appreciation for wellness, nature, and cultural tradition. Drawing from my Scandinavian and Scottish heritage, I wanted to create a space that not only honored the ancient practice of sauna, but also encouraged people to slow down, reconnect—with themselves, with others, and with the natural world. In Scandinavian culture, “fika” represents more than a break—it’s about intentional pause, presence, and meaningful connection. That philosophy is at the heart of what we offer.

In developing FIKA, I’ve loved blending the strength and traditions of my cultural background to create a sauna experience that is both restorative and rooted in heritage. FIKA is more than a wellness facility—it’s a reflection of my journey, my values, and my desire to create a welcoming environment where people can breathe deeply, be present, and feel a sense of belonging.

In my leisure time, I enjoy studying Scottish Gaelic, running, traveling with my husband, unwinding at our home on Newark Pond in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and spending time outdoors with my dog, Lilly.
